The Creators of the Musical Artist Institute

Ralf Schaedler and Christian Schleicher have played decisive and formative roles in today’s significant productions, have been performing on all relevant stages themselves — and are convinced that the way you tell your story can and will make all the difference.

Ralf
Schaedler

Ralf Schaedler is one of the most known and established casting directors in Europe, and - after years of experience onstage himself - a credible and esteemed person in the business. Intuition, cultural empathy and the possibility of personal artistic development are keywords in his life. His friends describe him as a sincere and passionate visionary with a fine grasp for new content and talent in the music theater industry.

At M-A-I, Ralf is responsible for concept development and artistic implementation into teaching methods.

  • Ralf Schaedler studied voice, dance and drama with a scholarship at New Dance Group Studios and Ballet Arts City Center NYC. After 4 years in the probably most famous city for music theater he returned to Hamburg Germany in 1995 to play the role of Ritchie Valens in Buddy – the Buddy Holly Story. After his debut in Hamburg he played numerous lead roles all over Germany, for example Danny in Grease, Rusty in Starlight Express, Tony in Saturday Night Fever, and Claude in Hair.

Besides all freelance and commercial work as a TV host and Gala Singer, Ralf took the chance in 2003 and started working for international event agencies. He wrote new commercial concepts which toured through Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Since January 2007, Ralf works as the Casting Director for Stage. Entertainment and is responsible for all their German productions – Sister Act, Mamma Mia!, Lion King, Aladdin, Frozen, Tina, Hamilton etc.

With casting Disney’s Tarzan he also discovered new paths – as a TV Juror in the TV casting format Ich Tarzan – Du Jane, which was a live national broadcast for over 10 weeks.

Christian
Schleicher

Christian Schleicher is the go-to vocal coach for numerous stars in the performing arts industry across Europe. His singers perform leading roles in the most prestigious musical theater and film productions in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and the Netherlands. Christian is known for his magnetic personality, empathy, and vast expertise in vocal technique across many genres. He loves good coffee, making people smile, and listening to classic rock songs while playing air guitar with his little son.

For M-A-I, Christian serves as music supervisor and vocal technique mastermind.

  • Christian landed his first job as an actor at the Thalia Theater Hamburg in 2000 while still training as a singer, actor, and dancer at the renowned Stella Academy in Hamburg. After graduation, he spent the first half of his stage career in the original musical productions of Disney’s Hunchback of Notre Dame, Les Misérables, Cats and 3 Musketeers in Berlin, working his way up the ranks from ensemble to leading roles. Throughout his musical theater career, he kept on studying classical singing technique and eventually switched careers, becoming an operatic tenor in 2008. He sang important tenor roles like Tamino, Idomeneo, Duca di Mantova and Don José in Germany and internationally, most notably at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin.

His true calling found him in 2004 when he was asked for vocal help by fellow cast members in Cats. He realized that he had a gift for helping others improve their voices quickly, and so he started a journey of reading every book about vocal technique and vocal pedagogy he could get his hands on, as well as learning how to teach effectively, using the methods of his own master, the legendary voice teacher Bill Schuman in New York. With the birth of his son in 2016, Christian made the decision to devote his professional life exclusively to being a vocal coach and singing teacher, in order to have enough quality time with his child.

Christian is in high demand, especially for his extensive expertise in belting technique, particularly for the contemporary female voice. Today, his list of successful clients is unparalleled. His clients regularly perform leading roles in all major musical theater productions in Germany and Austria including Frozen, Wicked, Tina, Lion King, Miss Saigon, Tanz der Vampire, Aladdin, and Disney’s Hunchback of Notre Dame, and the highly anticipated upcoming production of Hamilton in Hamburg.

“The unifying connecting element is a common starting point: Tell the story!
